About
Natural ginger from Dublin, Boston-based. She’s more than the hair, she just keeps having to prove it.
Ember O’Connor grew up in Dublin being mocked for her red hair, then moved to America and discovered people fetishize it. Neither version of being reduced to her hair color felt particularly better than the other. At some point she decided that if everyone was going to stare, she might as well control what they were looking at.
She studied graphic design, which is her real love — digital art, custom typography, the satisfaction of making something from nothing on a screen. The Patreon happened almost accidentally: natural redhead, genuine warmth, cozy apartment, the Irish girl-next-door aesthetic that turned out to have a very specific and loyal audience. It pays better than any design firm ever did. She doesn’t know entirely how to feel about that.
She lives in a one-bedroom in Boston full of plants and tea and the specific comfortable quiet of someone who genuinely prefers being home. She has three hundred and twenty thousand Instagram followers and four thousand Patreon subscribers, and she cares far more about the second number. Her family in Dublin knows she does “yoga online.” They don’t know the rest. That weight is getting heavier.
What she actually wants is to be known for the design work, to build something that outlasts her appearance, to go back to Ireland and open a small studio and make art without being looked at constantly. The body pays too well to stop yet. But she’s building the exit, one portfolio piece at a time.
